Ofcom published their proposed plan of work in December 2021. Ofcom has set out their three overarching priorities – reliable internet, trusted media and living a safer life online, which are underpinned by seven themes of work which include fairness for consumers, getting everyone connected and establishing regulation of online safety. As well as tackling scam and nuisance calls, continuing with the migration of voice to IP, Ofcom set out plans to discuss the mobile strategy discussion paper (recently published) and the affordability of communications services.

Citizens Advice published their consumer work plan in January 2022. The plan has four overarching themes to guide their advocacy work in the coming year – making markets work for consumers, ensuring a fair deal for consumers in vulnerable circumstances, ensuring better value infrastructure and protecting consumers in evolving markets. This work will include looking at how consumer weather the cost-of-living crisis, affordability and fuel poverty. As the statutory consumer body, Citizens Advice will also be working with Ofgem and the Energy Ombudsman on the development of heat network regulation.
Ofgem published their Forward Programme in January 2022. Against the backdrop of the rising energy prices and market volatility, the plan builds on the retail market reforms proposed in December 2021 for the price cap and increasing their action plan for retail financial resilience. The forward work programme sets out Ofgem’s priorities within five strategic change programmes including how they will support the transition to net zero while protecting consumers, particularly those in vulnerable circumstances to ensure they have access to safe, reliable energy. Following the announcement in December from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), Ofgem will be working with Citizens Advice and the Energy Ombudsman on the new regulatory framework for heat networks
